Stool Art Collective Involvement Guide

Thank you for your interest in getting involved with Stool Art Collective! Regardless if you’re a completely new face or if we’ve seen you around, there’s a place for you here. :)

We like to say “We Know People Who Care,” and we’re excited you want to be one of them!

3 Types of Involvement

The purpose of this page is to outline the 3 ways in which we as an organization work with others. It is important that you consider what kind of involvement you want / are capable of taking on so we can all be on the same page of what to expect when working together.

Involvement Type 1: Participants

Participants submit work to announced projects

Example: Submitting artwork to be shown in a Stool Organized Art Show

Expectations:

Potentially set up artwork (event dependent)

That's it! Thank you for your help! :-)

Involvement Type 2: Collaborators

Collaborators Work Closely with Stool on a Specific Project

Collaborators may “hop on” to work on a pre-existing project

Collaborators may propose their own project

Collaborators may come on as a result of Stool outreach efforts

Expectations (during collaborative project):

Weekly Video Call Meetings (Wed. 8:30 PM) OR Detailed, Active Communication if unavailable

      • Communication example: "Hey I can't make it to this weeks meeting. This week I worked on ____. I need help figuring out _____. Next week I'm shooting to have _____ done."

Active Involvement & Proactive Progress on Projects

      • Taking initiative to make progress on what you commit to working on
        • Note that all responsibilities for projects are self appointed based on individual capacity. We know capacity is different for each person, but if you are committing to collaborate, make sure you are ready to collaborate!

Team Spirit & Good Vibes

      • We are not all business all the time
      • Don’t be afraid to be you + talk to us as people

Good at Giving & Receiving Feedback

      • Just like Members, collaborators must be able to take (respectful) feedback to improve their work, as well as suggest improvements to other members / collaborators work
      • Both Stool Members & Collaborators hold each other accountable by pushing each other to make the best work we can
      • Not everything is a critique, but if you have a suggestion, make it

Setup, Running, & Takedown of Events

      • If applicable
      • If not available day of event, prep work may be done in advance

Involvement Type 3: Members

Members have a say in the Decision Making + Direction of Stool as an Art Collective

Minimum involvement period before moving from Collaborator to Member is one event / project start to finish

Expectations :

All Collaborator Responsibilities

Conceptualizing, planning, and Running New / Recurring Events

Maintenance on / Creating Work for Shared Platforms, Spaces, Events

      • Website upkeep
      • Social media content
      • Event material

FAQ

Q: How does someone become a member?

A: By working on at least one project / event from start to finish as a Collaborator. This time working together is an opportunity for both Stool and Collaborators to see if becoming a member feels right. Both parties need to be in agreement, and the intangibles like vibe need to be right on each side. A majority of current Stool members were brought on as Collaborators first, later becoming Members.

Q: What if I don’t want to become a Member?

A: That’s okay! We love collaborating with people / orgs, so if membership isn’t your vibe, we would still love to work with you on a project. :)

Q: How do I get started with Stool?

A: Now that you've read this page, DM us on Instagram ( @stool.co ) with how you would like to be involved, and with what project! (A pitch for a project is OK as well.)

Q: I am only interested in participating. Where can I see Stool's projects open for submission?

A: Click here!
